June 13, 2013 – Hour 2
We turn to the stories of two writers: poet George Evans, who served as an Air Force medic and was the first soldier in Vietnam to defeat his court martial, in a tale that could have come straight out of M*A*S*H; and the late Lynda Van Devanter, an Army surgical nurse in 1969 and 70, whose memoir Home Before Morning: The Story of an Army Nurse in Vietnam inspired the TV hit series China Beach.
This is a rebroadcast of an episode from Shared Weight, our series showcasing voices and stories of individuals from all sides of the Vietnam War, thirty years after its end.
