Disability Law And Labor

March 5, 2014 - Segment 4 - We discuss pending legislation concerning persons with disabilities, including: a bill that would give Medicaid coverage to adults with disabilities in need of shift nursing services, so they can live at home with their families instead of being institutionalized; a bill that addresses "Assertive Community Treatment;" and a bill that addresses the minimum wage for disabled persons. Joining us will be: Cathy Surace, Managing Attorney at the Maryland Disability Law Center; and Sarah Rhine, Attorney at the Maryland Disability Law Center.

Maryland Legislature: Christopher’s Law Would Improve Police Training

January 23, 2014 - Segment 4 - The Maryland Legislature is in session, and we look at a Maryland House bill that would improve police training by provisions including: requiring re-certification for life-saving skills; increasing sensitivity to cultural and gender diversity; and others. The proposed law is being called Christopher's Law in memory of Christopher Brown, a Randallstown teenager who was killed in 2012 by a Baltimore County police officer.

There is some question, though, of how this ruling will be implemented.
