Our panel of guests discusses The Obama Effect 2.0, a conference taking place October 27-29 at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) Commons. My co-Host for the hour is Dr. Kimberly Moffitt, who also curated The Obama Effect 2.0 conference with support from the American Studies Department at UMBC. Dr. Moffitt is Associate Professor of American Studies at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and co-editor of Blackberries and Redbones: Critical Articulations of Black Hair/Body Politics in Africana Communities.
Our panel of guests includes: Sherella Cupid, student in the Language Literacy and Culture program who is presenting on Michelle Obama’s legacy in the Obama White House, and who co-wrote “Black Girls Defining the Magic of FLOTUS: Analyzing the Michelle Obama Effect for and with our Black Daughters;” Sheila Starkey Hahn, Immigration Lawyer out of Memphis, TN, who works to help Central American Women and Children; and Dr. Camika Royal, Assistant Professor of Urban Education and Co-Director of the Center for Innovation in Urban Education at Loyola University Maryland, who studies the intersection of race and urban school reform.
