Baltimore native and New York Times best selling author, Laura Lippman, joined us today for a discussion about her latest novel, I'd Know You Anywhere. Lippman is the author of fourteen other novels, including The Tess Monaghan Series, which featured the books Baltimore Blues, Charm City, Butchers Hills and others. Lippman's works have won the Agatha, Anthony, Edgar, Nero, Gumshoe and Shamus awards.

With the end of the baseball season heating up, we revisited a show from earlier this spring that focuses on African American participation in the sport.

Another in our series of Urbanite Radio Stories, the show is based on Michael Corbin's article "Where are African Americans in national pastime?" We are joined by Mike Singletary, Executive Director of the James Mosher Baseball League, the oldest continually operating African American Youth Baseball League in the country, Toby Henson, a former participant in the league, and his son Shawn who is a player in the league.

Rebecca Dongarra is a founding partner at Dionysus' Kitchen, a Catonsville-based catering firm.

Leronia Josey is a lawyer and management consultant. She served as General Counsel to Bethel AME Church in Baltimore for 15 years.

We went back into our archives to pull out an interview with “Labor's Troubador,” Joe Glazer. The interview is from 2002, and Joe passed away four years later at the age of 88. Joe worked for the Textile Worker's Union of America, for the United Rubber Workers, and as a labor adviser to the United States Information Agency. Throughout his life, he recorded over 30 albums of folk music, full of songs about the struggles of the labor movement.

Joe shares stories from his life and music with us in this Labor Day special.

Fahima Vorgetts, an Afghan-born humanitarian activist, is Director of the Afghan Women's Fund. Yesterday she returned from a trip to Afghanistan, where she works building schools for girls and running literacy programs for women, among many other endeavors. She joined us today to discuss current conditions in Afghanistan.
